Destiny 2 Warlord’s Ruin Dungeon Guide: Conquer Every Encounter & Claim Your Rewards

Warlord’s Ruin: A Comprehensive Dungeon Guide

Warlord’s Ruin, a challenging dungeon in the Destiny 2 universe, presents a unique set of mechanics and encounters. This guide will provide a detailed walkthrough, helping you conquer each encounter and claim your rewards.

General Mechanics

Trick Chests:

Beware of the numerous fake chests scattered throughout the dungeon. These chests, identifiable by their suspicious blue glow, will spawn screebs when opened. Designate one player to test chests while the others maintain a safe distance. Only two chests contain valuable loot, and their locations may vary.

Ether Totems and Imminent Wishing:

Each encounter features ether totems summoned by enemies. These totems have a capture ring that requires players to stand within it. Unlike other capture mechanics, there’s no UI indicator other than an audio cue and the ring disappearing upon successful capture. Multiple overlapping rings can be captured simultaneously. Shooting the totems has no effect.

The "Wish Imminent" buff acts as a timer, indicating the window of opportunity to capture ether totems. Once the buff expires, all captured totems are "accepted," triggering the next phase of the encounter.

Encounter 1: The Prison

  1. Escape the Cages: Eliminate enemies until the boss imprisons each player in a cage. To escape, shoot the Taken eyes near your cage. The cage rises as you shoot, potentially obscuring lower eyes. Freed players should assist their teammates.

  2. Defeat Scorn Mini-Bosses: Clear out the Scorn mini-bosses that spawn.

  3. Capture Ether Totems: The boss will summon ether totems. Capturing at least two totems initiates the standard DPS phase. Capturing only one results in a significantly shorter DPS window.

  4. Damage the Boss: Swords prove effective against the boss, who has relatively low health regardless of your chosen weaponry.

The Dungeon Cell Puzzle

  1. Decipher the Skeletons: From your cell, two players can observe skeletons marked with numbers and hand positions. These skeletons provide instructions on how to configure the rotating buttons:

    • Skeleton with Right Hand and White "II": Rotate two buttons clockwise.
    • Skeleton with Left Hand and Orange "IIII": Rotate four buttons counter-clockwise.
    • Remember, the orientation refers to the skeleton’s left and right hands. White always signifies clockwise rotation, while orange indicates counter-clockwise.

  2. Coordinate and Activate: Communicate with your team to shoot the six buttons, aligning them according to the skeletons‘ instructions. Once correctly configured, shoot the "confirm" button.

  3. Shortened Puzzle (Less than Three Players): With fewer than three players, the cell doors remain open, allowing you to bypass the puzzle by directly interacting with the buttons.

Encounter 2: The Freezing Chamber

  1. Eliminate Taken Eyes: Clear the area of Taken eyes.

  2. Manage Scorn Bosses and Totems: Two Scorn bosses emerge on opposite sides of the arena, accompanied by a freezing wind. Each boss deploys one ether totem as an attack and drops another upon death. Consider delaying the final blows to allow both totems to spawn.

  3. Capture Totems and Ignite Braziers: Capture the ether totems (1-4) located on the sides of the arena. Seek warmth near the torches at the back to counter the freezing effect. Each captured totem generates a fire orb. Collect four orbs and dunk them into the central braziers. The final orb dunked initiates the DPS phase.

  4. Utilize Braziers Strategically: Group up near a brazier to damage the boss. Each brazier eventually extinguishes, prompting you to move to the next. Avoid activating multiple braziers simultaneously, as they will all expire together.

  5. Recommended Strategy: Ranged DPS proves most effective in this encounter.

  6. Farming Opportunity: The Scorn bosses and Taken Minotaur mini-bosses can be farmed using the "Centotaph Mask" exotic helmet.

Final Boss Encounter: The Warlord

  1. Prepare for a Multi-Phased Battle: The boss arena consists of three massive platform chunks.

  2. Clear Initial Enemies: Eliminate the Taken eyes that spawn.

  3. Capture Totems and Manage DPS Windows: Two Scorn bosses appear, summoning ether totems using the same mechanics as the previous encounter. Capture totems to extend the miniature DPS phase that triggers when the "Wish Imminent" buff expires. The DPS window length correlates to the number of totems captured, ranging from ~6 seconds for one totem to ~15 seconds for all totems.

  4. Clear Blight and Remove the Hex: Continuously clear the accumulating blight balls on the platform. Killing a Scorn boss spawns invulnerable Scorn warriors that inflict a "Hex" debuff. Remove the hex by meleeing a warrior to transfer it. Beware, hexed warriors can melee you to return the debuff, requiring you to evade after transferring it. If the hex timer expires, the player carrying it perishes.

  5. Transition Between Platforms: Depleting a segment of the boss’s health causes it to shift to the next platform. Utilize this brief period to replenish ammunition. Consider leaving a sliver of the boss’s health remaining to maximize DPS time on each platform.

  6. Ascend to the Final Platforms: After clearing the initial three platforms, you gain access to three additional DPS platforms above. These platforms offer a significantly longer DPS phase. Move between them as they fill with blight, unleashing your heavy ammo reserves. While the Taken eyes respawn constantly, you can prolong your time on each platform by preventing the boss from having all its eyes active simultaneously.

  7. Final Stand: Failing to defeat the boss within the time limit will teleport your fireteam to the arena’s bottom, restarting the encounter. Final stand occurs in a separate area and may not have a fail condition.

  8. Recommended Strategy: Ranged DPS is crucial for this encounter. The boss’s mouth acts as a critical hit spot, making weapons like Linear Fusion Rifles, Machine Guns, and Sniper Rifles ideal. Prioritize Supers that generate orbs of power or offer sustained damage output. While useful in other situations, Wells of Radiance and Ward of Dawn may not be as effective due to the need for constant repositioning.

Post-Game: The Loot Goblin and Ahamkara Bones

After defeating the Warlord, you have 500 seconds to retrace your steps through the dungeon. During this time, you can locate a powerful screeb and collect Ahamkara Bones. Refer to this comprehensive guide for the locations of all Ahamkara Bones: Warlord’s Ruin Ahamkara Bones Locations
